They say that young people who play computer games
and communicate with friends with instant messaging develop strong
hand-eye coordination. Of course, the foundation of this coordination
is hand strength and good vision. Some of us, however, struggle
with the basics of hand movement and/or our eyesight. Does this
mean we should miss the pleasures of working and playing with computers?
Not at all. We only need to make some adjustments to the tools
we use to interface with our computers. One of the best and easiest
adjustments we can make is in the keyboard. Making keyboard keys
bigger and the letters on the keys bigger as well, makes typing
so much easier. Especially for those of us who look at the keys
while typing.
The VisionBoard™ combines the bigger keys required by those
with dexterity problems with large, high contrast letters on the
keys for those who have trouble reading the little letters on most
standard keyboards.
Larger keys on a standard sized keyboard, of course, means fewer
keys. For example, the seldom used function keys have been removed
as well as the number key pad used by accountants and others entering
large volumes of numbers. Otherwise, all the most used keys are
included making this keyboard the perfect solution.
The VisionBoard™ will operate on any PC with a common PS/2
port. If you have a MAC then OS 9, OS x 10.1 or higher is required
along with a PS/2 to USB converter (available below). If you have
a PC without a PS/2 port you will need the PS/2 to USB converter
as well.
Choose between the standard VisionBoard™ with white keys
and black letters and the VisionBoard™ - Color which adds
color to the keys providing greater visual cues to those with low
vision or who are just learning the layout of a QWERTY keyboard.
Also see below for our trackball and vertical mouse. These offer
a solution for those having difficulty using a standard mouse due
to dexterity challenges.
