Using high quality British English speech technology developed by Portset, KeySpeak provides the entry into spoken speech from your computer. Both male and female voices are available with control of speed, pitch and voicing.

Many visually impaired find that the technical challenge of using a personal computer is just too difficult to get quick positive rewards from. As a result of discussions with visually impaired groups, Portset were always been told that the real need was to get something-straightforward to use for simple tasks, that computers do well. They also wanted computers to do things for them that would improve and expand their independence.

When I buy KeySpeak what do I get?

KeySpeak comprises Portset's two adjustable voices, speech immediately at start-up and five core applications.

• Two high quality, British English voices, speak the system messages, vocalise keyboard input, and read text documents from KeySpeak applications.
• KeySpeak starts when the computer is started. If you want to turn off the speech just click the computer mouse button.
• Access the KeySpeak applications menu and get all the KeySpeak applications listed to you.
• Simply use the cursor keys to hear what the programs available are, then press the return key to start your selected application.
• Access to desktop applications, provides you with a transparent keyboard voice. Ideal if you need extra keyboard confidence when using windows programs which are not KeySpeak compatible.
• Voice Modification, the voice modification program lets you change the speech parameters to suit your preferences. For each voice you will be able to select a different personality, and to change the speaking rate and pitch. You can also select which voice is to speak the system messages. The other voice will then read the text input.
• Shutdown your computer automatically. Modern computer systems need to close themselves down in an orderly way. It is not advisable to simply switch a computer off while it is running. This program will perform a proper shutdown routine on your computer so that you can then switch it off safely.
• Spoken help for all the actions, commands and operational use of all the KeySpeak applications.
